My Adventures in CSA

So I joined my local CSA...
Community Supported Agriculture

I signed up through Tanaka Farms and was pretty excited about it.
I have been reading & researching joining one for a while now.

I signed up to do the once a week pick up of a small box and the cost was $20 per week.

Since we eat a lot of veggies in this house we were excited at the possibilities of trying new ones and being so adventurous... seeing as how you never know what is coming that week!

Plus- we love that it's all locally grown, with no pesticides.

I did my first pick up and here is my review.

The small box is HUGE.
Plenty for a family of 4 or more, so with just us 2 it was overwhelming.

I like salad, but who can eat this much?

This is what the box looked like when I opened it...

Our shipment was as follows:
6 naval oranges ( so yummy, possibly the best I have ever eaten.)
5 Apples ( also yummy)
A whole heck of a lot of cilantro
A head of cauliflower
A giant head of lettuce
Spinach
Kale
more lettuce of another variety
and yet, more lettuce, much more crunchy type?

In the end I decided I would much rather take my $20 per week and pick out the fruits and veggies I want right from the stand.

We threw too much away and just couldn't eat it fast enough.

Sorry CSA... you were a fun idea, but it's just not the right time in our lives.
