Being Intentional // Mom Style

So one of my new years resolutions ( yeah... totally) was to be more intentional with my style & appearance. It may seem vain... hear me out.

It's really hard to get fully ready ... everyday... with a child. And I only have ONE.
props to you moms with like 3 or 4 kids that look hot everyday. mad MAD props.

It is really easy... to wear black tights, a flowy sweatshirt, and a messy bun... everyday.
It's bliss actually. I am rocking it now ( but it's bedtime.)

So.

Lots of looks that inspired me to be more stylish, more put together, more glama-mama. ( barf )

BUT...

took little, to no extra effort.

I decided to work smarter, not harder on my new look.

Here is my old routine. ( please, no judgements.)

Shower once every couple of days. Wash my hair 1-2 times per week. mmhmm.
Make up was a swipe of mascara, some tinted moisturizer and whatever blush I had laying around.

Grab the same jeans, flats and plain t shirt and go.

No more.

Here is what I have become.

-- Drumroll. --

Shower every 2 days.
Wash my hair when it needs it. I bought more "glamorous" shampoo ( from costco ) so that I felt more awesome just by washing my hair. It really is amaze-balls.
Blowdry and curl my hair, on the first shower of the week.
This extra 5 minutes of curling my hair gives me a few days of styling ( the first day down, the second some version of half up and the third a high pony and maybe a fun headband)
Pick out my outfits on Sunday for the entire week. Sounds silly-it's not.
If everything I need is washed and ready and hanging all put together, I just grab and go.
My outfits are still simple, but I add an intentional piece of flair. ( yeah.. flair)
{ necklace, bracelet, scarf.. you get the point. }
It's hard to mix up my shoes when it's snowing all the dang time, but I invested in a couple of great pairs of boots that go with everything so that made it fine for the resolution rules.

My make up hasn't changed much although I take my time and have bought "season specific" colors and products.

When I am more put together I feel way more accomplished with my day. Even if we stay home for most of the day, I feel good that I got dressed, made myself look ok.
Even if it was just to get the mail and wave to the neighbor that wears his cat in his sweater.
( another time...)

If you're still reading this... bravo. We're real friends.

How do you make yourself feel more "put together?"

  3. I love this post! I can relate. For one of my jobs I can seriously get away with wearing my workout clothes to work and my boss doesnt care or say anything...and since I work out after work I feel why not save the time and not having to dirty more clothes...but when I do that I feel grungy. Props to you for getting ready even when you might not see anyone. That is how I sometimes plan what I am wearing for the day....who am I gonna see. haha! But thank you for inspiring me to put a lil more effort in each morning!

    B) You go girl.
    C) I'm not ready to be a mom. My daily routine takes WAY too long. And I like to shower. Like REALLY like to shower.

  5. I was just talking to Jonathan about this today. The whole concept of what makes you feel "ready". For me it is putting shoes and perfume on. Even if I don't leave the house I feel like I accomplish so much more when I do those two things.

Also, picking your outfits out for the whole week...that is NEXT LEVEL. I am so impressed.
